Daniela Popescu

Daniela Popescu, Ph.D., is a Teaching Assistant at the Faculty of History, University of Bucharest, and president of Asociația Culturală „Istoria din Casă în Casă”.

Her Ph.D was focused on Romanian-Turkish diplomatic relations during the interwar years until the communist regime took power in Romania but her research revealed a variety of illegal border crossing cases during the 1940s and various aspects regarding the minorities study. Her role in the PARI project as a researcher in the historical field focuses on identifying, especially during the first half of the 20th century, the interactions of Roma communities with public institutions, with the Orthodox Church, their social perception and misperception, and the deportation phenomenon.

Daniela Popescu`s recent studies are focused especially on illegal border crossings, but also on the German and Turkish minorities in Romania, their relations with the Romanian authorities and on European international relations during the first half of the 20th century. Among her fields of research and interests are: European international relations and Romanian interwar history, minorities studies, social history, Holocaust, deportations, war propaganda and social history.
